Teacher & Leader Effectiveness Commission Prepares to Submit Report

OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 30, 2011) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi will chair the next Oklahoma Teacher & Leader Effectiveness Commission meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 in the State Board of Education boardroom, Room 1-20, on the first floor of the Oliver Hodge Building, 2500 N Lincoln Blvd.

“While the work of the commission is ongoing, an important milestone will be achieved with the commission’s recommendation to the State Board of Education,” Barresi said. “This will give the State Department of Education critical guidance as we move forward to implement the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System statewide.”

The 19-member commission is working to implement details of the state’s new Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Evaluation System and to provide oversight of the system. The commission has received feedback on the evaluation system from a wide representation of stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, students, parents, community members, and policymakers.

Prior to the Dec. 5 meeting, the public may still comment on the commission’s preliminary recommendations.

Final recommendations from the commission will be presented to the State Board of Education for the board’s approval at its regularly scheduled monthly meeting, Dec. 15.

The commission will continue to provide oversight and advise the State Board of Education on the development and implementation of the evaluation system.
