OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) is participating in “Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Day” at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City, Tuesday, April 3 from 7 a.m. until Noon.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and CAP Day will offer detailed information on preventing and reporting child abuse. Registration begins at 7 a.m. in the Capitol’s second floor rotunda. A course entitled “The Basics for Reporting Child Abuse” will begin at 9 a.m. in the Governor’s Conference Room on the second floor. The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy (OICA) will present “Advocacy 101” from 9 – 10 a.m. in room 412A on the fourth floor.
At 10:50 a.m., Governor Mary Fallin will present a proclamation and take photos with guests near the Grand Staircase on the south side of the Capitol. An OICA press conference will be held at 11 a.m. in the Governor’s Conference Room, followed by the Outstanding Child Abuse Prevention Awards.
The OKDHS is asking the public to bring diapers for the Capitol Diaper Drive. Diapers cost the average family about $100 per month, and are not covered by SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly “food stamps”) or WIC. Diapers may be taken to the Capitol, or dropped off in the OKDHS Sequoyah Building lobby from 8 a.m until 5 p.m.
